Sri Lanka and Maldives Girls Trip: Beyond the Guidebook in 2027
Ten Spots. Two Countries. One Unforgettable Journey. Why We Chose Sri Lanka for Our Next Women’s Group Trip
The Girls Trip Series has never been about moving women through a destination as quickly as possible or collecting attractions just to say we saw them. We design trips for women who want the freedom and spirit of solo travel, without having to experience the best moments alone. Sri Lanka lends itself beautifully to that philosophy because the country is not defined by one landmark, landscape, or style of travel. Within a relatively small island, we can move from Colombo’s contemporary creative scene into the Cultural Triangle, through mountain villages and working tea country, across peaceful paddy fields and finally down to the Indian Ocean.
The road trip is part of the experience. Each landscape introduces a different side of Sri Lanka, while the stays along the way give us a reason to slow down and feel connected to where we are. We will spend time at a women-led hotel, sleep among the misty mountains on a working tea estate, settle into a countryside hideaway inspired by traditional village life, and finish Sri Lanka beside one of the island’s most welcoming surf beaches. These are not generic places chosen simply because they can accommodate a group. They are intimate, character-rich places that reflect their surroundings and make the journey feel personal.
A Sri Lanka Itinerary Built Around People, Not Just Places
Of course, we will see the icons. We will climb Sigiriya at sunrise, explore the sacred Dambulla Cave Temple, take one of the world’s most scenic train journeys into Ella, and search for elephants and leopards on safari in Minneriya National Park. But this trip is equally defined by the moments that do not always make the standard Sri Lanka itinerary.
We’ll arrive in Colombo to settle in before we head out to explore the island’s creative story through art, design and traditional textiles. In the mountains, we will get closer to the traditions behind Ceylon tea by walking through the plantations, learning how tea is plucked and following its journey from leaf to cup. Later, in rural Wellawaya, we will move through the countryside with a resident naturalist, walk to a secluded waterfall, and spend time with local women who will share stories about their lives, traditions, and communities. We will sit down for tea in a local home and gather for a countryside dinner inspired by Sri Lanka’s farming heritage. On the southern coast, we will step into another local home to cook, eat and connect over the flavours of Sri Lankan cuisine; learning recipes and techniques that carry generations of history. These experiences are not designed for us to observe culture from a distance. They are opportunities to listen, learn and experience Sri Lanka through the people who know it best.
That is what travelling beyond the guidebook means to us.
Stop Saving the Maldives for a Romantic Vacation
For so many women, the Maldives sits in a very specific category of travel: the honeymoon destination, the anniversary trip or the romantic vacation they assume they will take someday with a partner. But why should one of the most beautiful places in the world remain on hold while you wait for a particular relationship, milestone, or version of your life to arrive? Maybe you have always dreamed of waking up on a private island surrounded by water so clear it barely looks real. Maybe you have pictured the bucket-list island stay, the slow mornings, the sunset swims, and the complete escape from everyday life, but never thought it was a trip you would realistically get the opportunity to take. This is that opportunity.
After travelling through Sri Lanka’s cities, ancient kingdoms, tea-covered mountains, villages and southern coast, we will fly to the Maldives for three nights surrounded by turquoise lagoons, powder-soft sand and open Indian Ocean views. These final days are intentionally unstructured. You can swim, snorkel, kayak, book a spa treatment or settle into a beach chair and do absolutely nothing. The Maldives is not a rushed add-on, and it does not need to be reserved for romantic travel. It is the exhale at the end of our adventure and the chance to experience a bucket-list destination alongside women who were ready to stop waiting too. So instead of waiting for the romantic vacation of your life, come take the girls trip of your life.
For women who want even more island time, there will also be an option to extend the stay beyond the group trip.
The Perfect Balance of Adventure, Wellness and Downtime
A well-designed trip should leave you feeling alive, not like you need another vacation to recover from it. This 12-day Sri Lanka and Maldives women’s trip is built around rhythm. There are early mornings worth waking up for, active experiences that help us engage with the landscape, and road-trip days that reveal how dramatically the island changes. There are also slow afternoons, open evenings and entire stretches of time when nobody needs anything from you. Wellness is woven into the experience in a way that feels natural, not forced. Think: a sunrise hike, a gentle sunset stretch, time outside, fresh mountain air, ocean swims, and the kind of movement that comes from discovering a place rather than following a strict schedule.
One morning may begin as the sun rises over Sigiriya before continuing to a lakeside breakfast and an afternoon safari. Another may unfold among tea plantations, with a hands-on cooking experience followed by a closer look at the people and traditions behind Ceylon tea. In the countryside, movement might look like walking to a waterfall or exploring the paddy fields by bike. On the coast, it could mean taking your first beginner-friendly surf lesson in Weligama.
And if you would rather skip an optional activity and spend the afternoon reading beside the water, that is part of the trip too. This is not an itinerary designed to keep you constantly busy. It is one designed to help you feel present.
Who This Sri Lanka and Maldives Girls Trip Is For
This trip is for independent, adaptable women who love the idea of solo travel but want to share the experience with a thoughtful group of like-minded travellers.
It is for women who appreciate beautiful places without needing every moment to revolve around a photograph. Women who are excited by meaningful food experiences, local stories, boutique accommodations, and a road trip that reveals more than one side of a country. Women who can embrace a full adventure day, enjoy their own company during free time and understand that some of the best travel memories happen between the scheduled highlights. Many women join The Girls Trip Series without knowing anyone else. That is not the exception. It is the point. You arrive independently, but the experience is designed to make connection feel natural through shared meals, long drives, new experiences and enough breathing room for friendships to form without forcing them.
